At least in the Western world, "Asian" plastic surgery refers almost exclusively to operations intended for people of the Asia-Pacific region incorporating East Asia (China, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan) and Southeast Asia (south of China, east of India, north of Australia) genetic background, as well as some patients of mixed lineage (for example, Korean-French). People of northern, western, southern, and central Asian inheritance may obviously share some overlap in anatomic features, but many of the most important procedures described on this website have little or no application.
Many of eastern and southeast Asian lineage call themselves "Asian" and all others "white" or "Caucasian." Both terms are poor choices and incorrect. A better term to distinguish others is "non-Asian," although "non-East Asian" would be even better. Specific terms like, for instance, Occidental, European, or African, are best of all.
"Ethnic" is a non-specific term of minimal value. Incorporating numerous and widely diverse groups of East Asian, Middle Eastern, African, and Hispanic descent, the term denotes little more than "non-European."
