Chinese Cosmetic Surgery No Longer Cheap
In our Asian Plastic Surgery Predictions 2011 as well as here, we forecasted that prices for cosmetic surgery in East Asia would soon begin their big rise to parity with the West.

|
It didn't take long. |
According to a recent New York Times article referencing Asian cosmetic surgery at Beijing's Evercare Aikang hospital, here are some current prices:
• For a "typical procedure": $1,500-$3,000
(We take this to mean double eyelid surgery or rhinoplasty, which are the hospital's most popular cosmetic operations.)
• For jawline bone reshaping: $9,000
• For both jaw and cheek bone reshaping: $15,000
APSG Comment: What happened to all the great bargains? Don't fret. Double eyelid surgery for $180 is still widely available in the outlying hamlets and even in most of the big Chinese cities. At unlicensed beauty salons.
