Thick Dumpling Skin: Asian American Eating Disorders and Body Image

Spring, 2011

A new blog entitled Thick Dumpling Skin has launched with the tag line "It's what's on the inside that counts."

Designed as an online community for Asian Americans, it intends to explore the "unhealthy quest..for the perfect body" as well as "struggles with food & body image [that] are not merely about will power."

While the content so far seems fully focused on the topic of eating disorders, there seems to be plenty of potential to expand into other aspects of Asian America body image challenges as well.

Of course, the belief that one is overweight is prevalent throughout the world and in all cultures. Korea, for instance, has been called a land where everyone thinks they're fat.

Congratulations to editors Lisa Lee and Lynn Chen.
