Fingerprint plastic surgery

January, 2010

| More

A young woman deported from Japan re-entered the country after undergoing plastic surgery to change her fingerprints in China.

The patient paid $15,000 to have skin patches on her fingers removed and then re-grafted onto the matching fingers of the opposite hands to confuse the biometric computer systems used to scan fingerprints of people entering the country.

Japanese police suspect that this practice may be in widespread use by Chinese brokers aiding in illegal immigration.

According to another report, other Chinese plastic surgeons offer the same service at a price about 90% lower: $146 per finger.
