According to new statistics issued by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there are more certified plastic surgeons in China than in the rest of Asia Pacific countries combined.
China is home to an estimated 4,250 plastic surgeons and is surpassed in the world by only the United States at 5,700. Brazil came in third at 3,824.
While the United States has a relatively "mature" industry, China's entry into the cosmetic world is much more recent. With its remarkably rapid rate of growth, it's only a matter of a few years before it will likely rise to the top of the list.
Japan reported 1,438 plastic surgeons, while South Korea tallied 1,277. Thailand and Australia each have just over 200 surgeons. No other country in East or Southeast Asia broke the two hundred surgeon barrier.
