So what happened to all those cases of cosmetic eyelid surgery?
It's been widely published that eyelid surgery (and particularly double eyelid surgery) is by far the most popular cosmetic operation performed in not just East Asia but the world.
Not so according to 2009 statistics just released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
In the world, liposuction comes in at number one, breast augmentation at number two, and eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) a distant number three.
In fact, breast surgery is even a bigger winner than it may appear at first glance. If one groups together all of the main cosmetic breast operations (breast augmentation, breast lift, female and male breast reduction), breast surgery is more than twice as popular as eyelid surgery.

What about for East and Southeast Asia? Same thing. For every country in Asia Pacific, liposuction and breast augmentation surgery scored significantly ahead of eyelid surgery, which was consistently stuck in third place and typically followed by rhinoplasty and then facelift.
In not a single Top 25 plastic surgery country did eyelid surgery come close to topping the list.
