Compared with the Occidental skull, the Asian forehead tends to be more flattened or retruded (overly sloped backwards). A high natural hairline, not uncommon in those of Asian descent, may accentuate this feature by more exposing the retrusion and preventing easier camouflage with directed hair styling.
Some people with especially noticeable retrusion may choose to undergo cosmetic surgery to increase forehead projection using one of three very different approaches: fat injections, contouring with bone cement, or placement of a silicone implant.
Forehead augmentation is a "distinctly Asian" form of plastic surgery in that such procedures are essentially unknown in the West and are seldom offered by plastic surgeons outside of East Asia.
Hair transplantation, forehead reduction, and even brow lift may also be offered to lower a high hairline or as an alternative to grafting for forehead retrusion.
