Self-Decision Breast Augmentation
First described in Japan over 15 years ago and now used many thousands of times, self-decision breast augmentation allows a patient to inspect the effect of different sized implants during the actual surgical procedure and make changes in real time.
Epidural (spinal) anesthesia is utilized so that the procedure is pain-free even though the patient is fully conscious. An expander tool is placed into the incision and used to simulate different sizes and shapes by adding or subtracting the amount of filling.
During surgery, the patient can be raised into a sitting position on the operating room table and examine the effect in a mirror. Once the patient is satisfied, the expander is replaced by an actual breast implant.

While the procedure takes longer than traditional breast augmentation, recovery is faster and easier than with general anesthesia and, obviously, the size and shape can be altered on the spot by the patient.
Especially when a patient is conflicted over the decision on breast implant size and shape, this give-and-take method can yield a higher level of satisfaction with less postoperative surprises.
