Incisions made in the fold between breast and chest (inframammary) or around the bottom edge of the pigmented areola surrounding the nipple (periareolar) may result in noticeable scarring in Asian women.
One solution is to place the incision within the nipple itself at the darker junction of areola and nipple (shown in red).

The incision is small, heals with little scarring, blends well with the tissue's natural color, and does not decrease breast sensation or prevent breast feeding any more than do other methods.

If the nipple is not large enough or the patient prefers an alternate site, a very small incision may instead be hidden under the arm (transaxillary) or at the belly button (transumbilical, or TUBA).
It is also possible to undergo breast augmentation by transfer of body fat. Volume is enhanced through several tiny incisions that leave behind essentially no visible scar.
